Barlinek's history | About us

Timber industry developed in Barlinek as early as the nineteenth century. Since the end of the Second World War there was a sawmill operating together with a carpenter's shop and furniture factory. Apart from this one there were some more sawmills working in the area. After the war they were all combined into one company - the Timber Plant of State Forests in Barlinek. At the earliest stage of production sawmills converted softwood and hardwood into timber. The amount of the conversion oscillated around 100 m3 a day. At that time the carpenter's shop produced furniture for schools and offices, anti-snow hoardings and compasses to measure ground. From 1947 onwards the production increased and was extended by the following range of products: chairs, opening joinery, and wooden outfitting. Till 1950 the whole production was meant for the construction industry. After 1950 the following were produced: all-wood chairs, semi-cushioned chairs, all-cushioned chairs, children's folding chairs, as well as deck chairs and clothes-pins.

From 1 January 1959, the company adopted the name Barlinek Works of the Timber Industry in Barlinek, subject to the Association of the Sawmill Industry and Wooden Products in Warsaw, and then to the District Enterprise of the Timber Industry in Szczecin. In 1975 the works transformed into the Barlinek Wood Industry Enterprise in Barlinek.

The privatization and renaming the company Barlinek S.A. in 1999 brought about a real breakthrough. Thanks to a substantial financing and consistently following the policy of expansion and modernization of the company, a production increase and a dynamic increase in sales by a few dozens per cent followed.

In December 2002 a new production line of Barkiet - Barlinek floorboard - reached its full productive capacity, which allowed the company to double its annual productive powers up to 1.5m m2. Launching the production line crowned many modernization and expansion operations, which all departments have undergone, starting from the sawmill, through new air houses, kiln houses, varnishing houses, storehouses to the ecological and state-of-the-art boiler house.

By the end of May 2004 a new production line of Barkiet - Barlinek floorboard - was launched It is the third one - the plant's most modern and efficient. That in turn means further, gradual increase in the productive powers of the plant in Barlinek. In 2004 it reached 2.9 m2, and in 2006, after construction of a plant in Vinnica (Ukraine), it will reach its full production capacity of 6 m2. Currently Barlinek is one of the three biggest flooring manufacturers in Europe.

Barlinek S.A. produces domestic and exotic wood veneers, parquets, mosaics, solid pine floorboards, and most of all Barlinek floorboard - three-layered natural flooring with a modern glueless barclick joint, with a wide selection of face layer. Furthermore, there is also Barkiet sport on offer - it is a three-layer wooden flooring laid on flexible structure, intended for sports halls and sporting facilities.

Barlinek SA has become the leader of the wooden floors industry in Poland. The company is currently employing over 1400 people, which makes almost every third Barlinek citizen to have personal links with the plant.
